Lynn shares with me some of her more frightening experiences on set and how she worked through it, as this film is loaded with some great action.
Heading out for a night with the ladies? Might we suggest you don a red ensemble, or perhaps crimson lips? According to a new study, men not only prefer ladies in red, but they’re likely to spend more money on those clad in this romantic, rosy hue.

According to the study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, red makes women seem more attractive, since the color is said to send out subtle messages of how receptive they’ll be to sexual advances. In other words, men feel like they are less likely to get rejected by a lady in red.

Researchers tested 96 men from the United States and Austria, showing them images of women in different colored shirts. They found that men felt that women wearing red shirts were not only significantly more sexually attractive, but the men predicted them to be significantly more likely to respond positively to sexual advances. Since fellas fear rejection, when they see women in red they’re more confident about making a move.

And get this: Researchers also asked men to imagine that they were going on a date with the women in the pictures, and then to indicate how much money they would be willing to spend on their date. Women in red scored significantly higher in the amount of money these gents would spend on them, compared to women wearing a different color.

Adam Pazda, a social psychologist who led the study, said: “We find it fascinating that merely changing the color of a woman’s shirt can have such a strong influence on how she is perceived by men.”

According to the study’s conclusion:“As much as men might like to think that they respond to women in a thoughtful, sophisticated manner, it appears that at least to some degree, their preferences and predilections are, in a word, primitive.”

Time to go shopping with your fellow single friends and get your red on, no?

Paris Fashion Week wrapped up yesterday, effectively ending the month-long parade of pretty that spans continents. Of the various backstage beauty inspirations—which range from staid (a gorgeous, naturally beautiful French girl!) to wild (a prom dress with sneakers)—we came across, it’s the ones that tip toward the dramatic that are most thrilling. This season’s greatest grooming hits included theatrical eye accoutrements, color-blocked hairstyles and sun-kissed stares.

Theatrical Eye Accoutrements

Embellished eyes at Miu Miu and Chanel. Photos: Getty Images

At Chanel, bedazzled brows created by Peter Philips, Chanel’s Creative Director of Makeup, sparkled as the models glided down the runway, while at Alexander McQueen, a robotic, uniformly glamorous visored army—donning a neutral pink lip and pulled-back hair—ruled the catwalk. Lastly, at Miu Miu, the beauty concept boasted circus-like makeup in ‘50s-era light blue hues, adorned with stick-on stones reminiscent of the ones we rocked in grade school before piercing our ears.

Makeup maven Pat McGrath went for an ethereal, gossamer glow at Dior using a gilded palette of shades. McGrath applied beige liner on the eye’s inner rim, followed by loose powder in iridescent white gold, which she applied around the eye in a C-shape. Pantone 2012 shade Tangerine Tango made a bold statement backstage at Dries Van Noten. The hot hue was applied to the eyelid, from the lash line all the way to the brows. A corresponding peach lip lacquer kept the look in the same color family without looking too matchy. Lastly, at Gareth Pugh, a more subtle iteration of the shade decorated the models’ lids in a look inspired by the virginal, dewy faces of 18th century nuns. MAC makeup artist Alex Box used MAC Naked Pigment and MAC Pro Shine Mixing Medium together with Luna Cream Color Base, blending the mixture around upper and lower eyelids and adding interest via a pink opal pigment on the inner corners.

Similarly, at Issey Miyake, Souleiman created a more subtle color-blocking technique by applying a “stripe” of gel through the hair: “It creates an extra detail which adds to the overall minimal effect and plays on the concepts of texture and shine.” Jean Paul Gaultier hairstylist Guido Palau, meanwhile, created coifs involving long, straight strands featuring colored sections just on the crown of the head—for an androgynous vibe.

Best known for his scene stealing turns on TV’s Parks and Recreation and the dearly departed Party Down, Adam Scott proves in Friends with Kids that he works just as well on the big screen as he does on NBC’s Thursday night line-up. Written and directed by Jennifer Westfeldt, the film follows Jason (Scott) and Julie (Westfeldt), a pair of best friends who decide to raise a child together. Anchored by a stellar cast that includes Jon Hamm, Maya Rudolph, Kristin Wiig and Edward Burns, Friends with Kids is a humorous and moving look at the impact of having children. Toeing the line between comedy and drama, the film doesn’t shy away from delivering sucker punches alongside punchlines. In one scene, Scott’s Jason delivers an impassioned defense of Westfeldt’s character that will surprise anyone who thought they were wandering into a light rom-com. We caught up with Scott to talk about working with babies, surviving the New York winter and the possibility of a Party Down movie.

ELLE: Can you tell me how you got involved with the film? I read that you had been friends with Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm for a while before working on this.

ADAM SCOTT: We’ve been friends since the late nineties. She and Jon asked me to come to a table read at their house. We all just sat around and drank wine and read the script out loud, then they asked me to do it. I kept reminding them that they could easily get someone far more famous than me and have an easier time getting the movie made, but they stuck with me for whatever reason.

ELLE: You guys had a really short shooting schedule during last year’s terrible winter, and you worked with a lot of adorable, but possibly difficult babies. Did you have any logistical issues while making the film?

SCOTT: Yeah, it’s not like there are trailers for the actors. It was a low budget movie, so you’re just in this apartment with babies and toddlers. In between scenes there isn’t like a room to sit in by yourself…I remember once I fell asleep sitting on a bed and woke up and someone was applying make-up to my face, while I was sleeping. I was like ‘I need to go find a small dark space to sit in, or I’m going to kill myself.’ But that’s making an independent movie, that’s the way it is. I’ve done many of them, so I’m used to it.

ELLE: Is it easier to work with friends?

SCOTT: Oh totally, starting a few years ago I’ve clued in to the fact that it’s way better to make things with your friends than to make things with people you don’t know. It’s more fun, and it’s more familiar and comfortable. As I get older—or as I get old—I kind of realize that time is kind of precious, and I want it to be as enjoyable as possible. It’s fun to [work] with people that you love and love being around.

ELLE: This is Jennifer’s third film that she wrote and directed. Would you ever want to direct or write your own film?

SCOTT: Maybe, it’s such as a big job and the little directing I’ve done was just like a Funny or Die video. As far as a whole movie, it’s two years of solid work. Where I am, I don’t know if it would be any good frankly. I think I need a bit more experience before I do my own thing. But I would love to at some point.

ELLE: Do you think you would start out doing something on Parks and Recreation?

SCOTT: I would be nervous directing the actors on that show because they’re better than I am. So me suggesting something to them would be absurd.

ELLE: You mentioned that a lot of this movie came together through different readings with Jennifer Westfeldt, while she worked on the script. After seeing different versions of this story did anything surprise you when you saw it onscreen?

SCOTT: Just watching the film come together into one story was really surreal. It’s one thing when you’re just [in a few] scenes of a movie and you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s great they were making that movie, and I was doing that.’ But when you’re shooting the whole thing out of order, and you’re there every single day, you’re like ‘Oh my God, this actually makes sense!’ It was all chaos in my mind. She did a great job.

ELLE: I have to ask about Party Down and if you think it is going to live on in some capacity?

SCOTT: Well we’re trying to get a movie together, hopefully we’ll get it made sooner rather than later. We’re just all crossing our fingers that it will happen very, very soon.

ELLE: If Arrested Development can pull it off, I think you guys can do it.

SCOTT: I’m very excited for Arrested Development, [but] the risk with making a movie about a TV show that was good is that then you screw it up. We just don’t want to screw it up. We want it to be as good or better than the show was. That’s the big challenge, of not ruining everyone’s memory of it by making a shitty movie.

ELLE: You’ve had a great run over the past few years with Party Down and Parks and Recreation. What are you looking for in roles now?

SCOTT: I just try to find things that I can bring something to and be good in and not suck. [I try to] find people that I really want to work with. I’m going to work with Ben Stiller on a movie this summer and I’m super excited about that. The Ben Stiller Show was a really important show for me back when it was on Fox in 1992…It’s surreal to talk to Ben Stiller. I still can’t believe he knows who I am, but he totally does and it’s awesome.

Friends with Kids is in theaters tomorrow, March 9.

The only person more excited than us about Miu Miu‘s fall show, held in Paris yesterday at the Conseil de Economique, Social et Environemental, was Kate Mara.

It marked the actress’ first Miu Miu show, and the only one she’d attend all week, though it’s a longtime favorite brand. “Every time I go into the store, no matter what the season is, what that particular style is, I always find something that I feel completely comfortable in,” Mara explained. “So I think I just love the fit!”

If, like Mara, you’ve become a fan of Miuccia Prada’s sweet dresses and playful accessories, you might need the next few months to adjust your eye to the pant suits the designer’s offering for fall. Every single look—save the last five—was a suit. They came in brightly colored (always matching) prints, or suede, with high necked blouses and ruffled ties. Chunky loafers and structured bags pulled the already polished looks together, while Bjork’s soundtrack brought a bit of 90s flavor to the 70s-inspired collection (and kept Marc Jacobs’ head bouncing in the front row).

Whether stars like Mara, Katy Perry and Mia Wasikowska (both of whom also sat front row) adopt the head-to-toe prints come September may be up in the air, but those last five dresses? We doubt anyone will wait until fall to wear the darling mirrored suede shifts.

Tom Ford just launched his eponymous beauty line in November of last year, but it’s already garnered a hardcore devoted following. For spring, he’s launching his first seasonal, limited-edition collection, dominated by metallics and inspired by a radiant, bronzed face. “I have always loved the look of tanned, glowing skin, whether it is achieved with bronzing powder or with a natural tan,” Ford explains.

The collection includes four new nail polishes (in shades like Silver Smoke, Gold Haze, and Burnt Topaz) and a new lip gloss (in Gold Dust). It also introduces two firsts for Tom Ford Beauty: a bronzing powder (in Terra or Gold Dust) and four cream eyeshadows (in metallic shades like Platinum, Golden Guilt, Burnished Red Illicit, and Shimmering Spice).

Although the collection won’t be in stores until April, a few of the products are available for pre-order; otherwise, we’re left with Ford’s image of Mirte Maas, above, in the collection.

Like any iconic brand, Coca-Cola turned to Paris to find a creative director for its premier diet brand. Jean-Paul Gaultier’s whipped up three different films to toast his arrival at the storied Atlanta soda house. The first, “The Night and Day Serial Designer,” just premiered this morning. It features a marionette and a very enthusiastic Gaultier making doll clothes!
